PostSubject: Failure......   Fri Oct 29, 2010 6:33 am

I only know how to do simple little things......can't actually call this GFXing.....

I have GIMP, and I use Photobucket, sooo might need some guides to use them properly.

While I'm not as good as many of the other people on this forum that use GIMP, I can suggest a few things.

First of all. You don't want to use Photobucket's editor, or save your images on them. It ruins the quality. If you want to upload your pictures to a place that will sustain all quality of the image use: Imageshack, it's best if you make an account to keep track of all your images, or they'll be all over the place. And as for the minor/further editing of an image off of GIMP, you can easily use: Picnik, it's quite handy and does a lot of stuff. You may also upgrade to premium to get all features, although that's really not needed as most the tools are free and covers what you'll need. And remember. Always save in .png for the best quality. At least it is for me. Unless you're on GIMP and want to save all your layers, then safe as .xfc

In the images where you've colored the background in, you may want to use the pen/line tool, depending on what you want to call it. It's the one highlighted as pen in this image. Your images look a bit low quality too, unless it's photoshop that has done that, like I said. But there are plenty of alternative image boards to use. Like Imageshack, as I suggested. Zerochan is another one I favor. But I'm sure if you look around in the right places, you'll find all the images you need. Deviant art is okay for most, but a lot of the stuff on there is copyrighted, and you'll most likely get in trouble for using it.

Also. As for in-GIMP use, you can use tutorials to master it. I'm sure Zaquri/Claus has quite a few GIMP tutorials, as he's told me. Unless I'm terribly mistaken. You should ask him for some tutorials, and further advice on this stuff. Since he is a lot better than me by faaaaaaaaarrrr in the use of GIMP. Hopefully these tips help even a little.

      *EDIT IN:
I forgot to continue about your coloring on the background images. Sorry. Anyway, like I said, using the pen/line tool really helps for this. You may have to mess around a bit to get used to the anchor points and how deep to cut and so on. But once that is covered, you can either remove the background with the eraser, which is technically rendering, or use the smudge tool to mess it around and still maintain the original colors.

Ahhhhhhh......that helps a lot actually.

The original pictures I got from safeboru, then I edited them, and then uploaded them to Photobucked.

I didn't know that Photobucket lowers the quality of the images.

Thanks for the help.

I wonder if Zaq will see this and post something....Hmmm....

It does? I'm actually surprised. Usually I can't explain things that well, so when people do pick up on what I'm saying it's very shocking. But I'm glad it does. If Zaq doesn't comment on here, which most likely he will, come on, it's Zaq. Then just send him a PM. I'm sure he'll have to pay attention that way. And if you want to make sure he reads it, title it something to do with porn, nudes, and anything dirty.

And yup. I learned that the second time uploading a decent image. It totally ruined it, which is why I use imageshack. Since tinypic can't seem to pull it's finger out their ass and sort whatever mess is going on. If you need any more help and such, you can easily ask me and I'll try to help you as best as I can. xD I'm still a learning newbie myself.

The word 'failure' is needed for this Topic my good sir. I don't mean to be a dick but when it comes to GFX I've learned the best way to help someone evolve is to tell them their shit is shit and they need to improve. So I'll start off with your first one.

You added text to it. That's about it, but even in doing so you failed. It is glitterized which is a dangerous thing to do when applying text if you are trying to get it noticed; if you glitterize text then you must have more smexyness added to the background; and at least have the decency to try and blend it in with the background because it just sticks out there; even without the glitter I could tell it was just imprinted on their. Gimp is, in my opinion, the best way to make sure your fonts/text, render or stocks and brush strokes get blended with the background to make it look more sexy, but of course it seems you did nothing more but add text to a wallpaper so I guess my advice would seem irrelevant but I would advise you to at least put your effort into it next time. If you're going to use text make it blend in with the GFX, not color scheme wise but also using layer effects. And if you're gonna make it glitter; you're going to have to add some kind of strokes in their whether it be by pencil, brush, Smudge, etc..

I have no idea what to say about the second one. It seems you used that effect that pasterizes everything but left the Render in the pic untouched. Personally I hate that effect and think that it is only useful when you are going to cover it up with splatters or Grunge strokes but that is just me. Anyways; it doesn't seem like you put muc hwork into that one and I don't think you wanted to. I don't know what other advice to give other than. . . Don't shit on my eyes like that again O_o

I want to ask you, did you just use a brush and color outside of this render? Cause if so. . . You could have used the fill tool and got this shit done better. I only ask because it looks like the outline of the render ni the after pick seems. . . like you did this personally and avoided going near the lines so it would seem better somehow. Either way I don't think you meant to do much with this but more is what's required if you want it to look decent if it doesn't already look indecent in your eyes.

As Mrs. Claus said; I do have tutorials you can use; quite a lot if you're interested in taking your GFX skills on another level but at the moment I don't think you would get used to gimp so I suggest you use picnik to get. . . comfortable. If you do want Tuts, PM me and I'll send you a few; Don't worry they're not videos, they are merely Steps in GFX Format.
